Natural calamities and geohydrological hazards occur in this area due to the rapid uplift of the Himalayas and the under-thrusting of the Indian Plate and other extreme climatic disturbances. Climate Change and Himalaya: Natural Hazards and Mountain Resources  presents the resources of the Himalayas along with the potential natural hazards. It consists of 22 chapters from researchers working in different institutions in a multi-disciplinary approach. More than seven hundred glaciers were monitored and discussed in one of the chapter of this book.   Tips to save Sukhna Lake by Dr Ritesh Arya Tips to save Sukhna Lake by Dr Ritesh Arya   By  News Team     10 years Ago Y.S. RANA ,Chandigarh —  Sukhna Lake, the pristine beauty of Chandigarh is again on fire as shrinking of the lake continues despite slew of initiatives taken by the Chandigarh Administration. Talking to this reporter, Dr Ritesh Arya, a renowned geologist of international fame said that the efforts to save the lake would delay its decay but would not stop its end. “Creation and destruction are the geological events of nature. Vanishing of Indus Valley and Saraswati River are also geological events. Even 19.5 km Khardungla in Leh has been receding since last glaciations,” stated he. Suggesting solutions, Dr Arya said that  proper geological treatment of the catchments hills would be the best solution wherein the weathered slopes could be stabilized and the rain water from the slopes be diverted in the canals and moved away along with t...

“Hill stations near Chandigarh are geologically upside down hence prone to seismic activity” Dr Ritesh Arya.

“Hill stations near Chandigarh are geologically upside down hence prone to seismicactivity” Dr Ritesh Arya. “Hill stations near Chandigarh are geologically upside down hence prone to seismic activity” Dr Ritesh Arya.  Earthquakes represent the Next tectonic event and  is expected in the Shivaliks along the path of the old Saraswati river and the present Ghaggar river, says Dr Ritesh Arya,Guinness world Record Holders and an international famed Geologist of Chandigarh. He said that the foothill areas like Parwanoo, Pinjore and Panchkula fell into this zone. He feels that earthquake in Nepal is a warning to the authorities and private institutions bent on constructing cities with high-rise buildings and big industrial areas in North India especially if we are talking about Shimla, Solan, Parwanoo and Surajpur axis located near Chandigarh. Dr Arya while talking to this reporter said that today these towns are located in zones which were geologically upside down by this he...

Discovery of palm fossils proves Himalayas rose from sea: Expert Discovery of palm fossils proves Himalayas rose from sea: Ritesh Arya  Updated At:   Nov 05, 2020  02:05 PM (IST) 18969 0 1 0 Palm fossils discovered in Ladakh. Tribune photo Tribune News Service Shimla, November 4 The discovery of 20 million large palm leaves, discovered from Tethyan sediments in Ladakh, has further substantiated the fact that the Himalayas were once below the sea which separated India and Tibet. It is geo-hydrologist Ritesh Arya who chanced upon these almost four-feet-long palm leave fossils. “The presence of fossils of palm from the sediments of Indus Mollase in Ladakh clearly shows that the Himalayas in Ladakh were once below the sea and the sediments from where these fossils were found were below the sea,” said Arya. He explains that Tethys Sea once separated India and Tibet in geological history 20 million years ago and therefore, the Himalayas were not born but rose from the Tet...

Explaining his Aryas ‘C’ cycle research said while he was exploring and developing round water for the Indian Army in Ladakh in 2007 he was surprised to read an news item that man to be responsible for climate change and global warming. And dramatically linked the pollution level rise with global warming and propagated all this ‘inconvenient truth.’ H...
